whoa, only 16 left. EVERY DAY’S A GIFT!
eh.
well, I thought yesterday’s strip took too long, and had so many sketchy shitty details that it became a muddied mess. so today I started out with a fatter brush size (5 pt). (yesterday was 3pt).
wish I could better control the thickness. I tend to press really hard. I guess. So getting any variation in line size involves repeatedly whisking the brush until something shows up. very frustrating. hate it. ugh. anywho.
uh. blocking out the big shapes, then going back to detail, looks more cartoony. But I like being able to tell what I’m looking at. communicates better. and is faster. LIKE IT.
listening to Beck’s Guerro album. nom nom.
oh! uh. story wise:
the idea was to give a small nod to “where did these robots come from anyway?” He cannibalized some of the shelters. Maybe they were even designed to have robot servants, and he stole them all and reprogrammed? Uh. i didn’t think it that far through. Just wanted to give the wife a moment. to remember that she wasn’t always a savage. In fact she was the mechanical engineer who was instrumental in this whole environment. At one point I waffled over whether it should be ambiguous as to who was speaking. like maybe HE designed the underground environment, and she wasn’t happy. but. who cares about that scenario? borrrrring.
uh. anywho. then we see that he came out of his tight spot just fine, and is now riding a robot. This was meant to be a wide shot, showing him riding more clearly. but. I liked the face and didn’t want to mess with it.
the final shot is supposed to show the “queen’s guard” is actually do ok.
originally he was just throwing a bot into the audience (kind of attacking them?). But I drew him too big. and it seemed easy to just have the robot crunching on the edge. If it did fly into the audience, you’d have to resolve what it did up there. And Right now we’re just focused on what’s going on in the arena.
