And here we see the first really notable change from last years strips. A reverse shot that gives a sense of where they’ve come from.

Since I screwed up the first time, and (maybe) implied they were heading towards the same mountain range we’d seen in the first strip, I thought it best to more specifically state “NO! we are coming from those strange mountains. With that weird circular dome thing. or is that the moon? or wha?” (i do know what it is, but just meant for the reader to rest more assured with “i’ve seen those mountains before”)

I tried putting some clouds at either side of this wide segmented shot to reinforce “stormy bits ahead.” Should probably put some color in there to make it more clear that they be clouds. hmmmz.

Anywho. The big difference between this year’s (Final!) attempt at this strip, and last year’s (Failed!) attempt is – i’m working from a script. everything is planned out. And while I was planning it out, so that every 3 strips could fit on a page in the final book, I realized I’d fucked up and skrewed up my count. I was going to have to mix two stories on the same page. um. Well, i don’t want to *$^@%ing do that. sooo. I added in one more strip here to keep things tidy.

which means, yes, the next strip is the start of : the second story that takes place in this weird world… of BLOOD/SUGAR 2016! (to be bellowed in a huge booming voice)

My original plan was to draw this strip exactly as a reverse of the previous strip. dudes’ feet framing the journey. but. whateverrrrrr. I prefer to emphasis the zany “futuristic pulp fantasy sci fi feel” of the wasteland, and show our dudes as tiny specks. As if they were barely caught at the tail end of some outrageous crane shot.
