This is actually about as close to the original concept as you can get. This whole strip came from on night at my girlfriend’s house when she suggested we all draw some sort of random off the cuff art. I doodled these two guys in radiation suits, with a rat in a cage. I think they were poking him to see if he was dead. I made up the name “bloodsugar” because it struck me as a fun twist on all the horror “blood death” style names. plus, I wasn’t really sure what bloodsugar was for, science wise, so i thought it mysterious. Something diabetics worry about or something. because i’m half retarded. or something. Plus it seemed like a very incongruous thing to bring up, with that imagery.
2016 was originally just a random riff on the number from my short much-loathed art film project “Gauntlet 216″. I thought it added a certain space age feel to the title. “bloodsugar 216″ seems lame, but “bloodsugar 2016″ sounds like a scifi movie, set in the future.
