Each one of these strips is being created at 300dpi.  Though the art is often rushed, so it may be hard to appreciate. The idea for this storyline is to use a very simple line style (you will note other storylines mixing in if you stick with the strip a while. I won’t say how many until they’re all represented…). The original idea was that these 2 dudes should look like something roughed out on an etch-a-sketch. But As I drew it I found it hard to represent things floating in the whiteness of the earth. hmmm. Should I go back and be more strict? would it add anything if you couldn’t tell whether each panel was created on an etch-a-sketch?

Well, anywho.

The first 20 frames were originally doodled on napkins and lined paper while I was at a disabilities conference in Orlando (this was back when I worked at NaturalPoint, representing the SmartNAV product). I remember I was sharing a room with the boss’s wife. I mention this more to help myself dig up the exact date than to suggest there’s anything more to that story.

And this fun fact really has nothing to do with the origins or goals for the story. It wasn’t the first time I’d drawn up anything (the origins had a very different setting which I’ll rant about later). I was just sort of bored on that business trip, and finally plotting out the story for this project was a fun diversion. I remember sitting out in the front half of our room, sketching and flipping channels (trying to give the co-worker her space).

I remember I’d also planned at that time to just go buy the domain name bloodsugar2016 and never tell anyone about any of it. NO PRO MO! I remember being very thrilled about this idea as i took a smoking break out in the parking lot behind my wing of the hotel. I think I’d been discussing the idea of just creating art to be found after you are long dead with doug and maria in the weeks before this trip. hmm.

The whole “anti-promotion” idea seems less romantic nowadays. At least for this story.
