INsights: Interviewed for a cool job today. I’m suddenly hoping they don’t read this latest series of bizarre strips. eek. the high price of ART!

This strip was originally written such that the money was clearly on fire (too much work in these wee hours, as per usual). I’d made a note that disky would say “No you’re just SoooOOOooOooOoOOOoO high” with the “O”s wrapping several times, and perhaps filling up the background. like the background laughter in a much earlier strip.

Then Viddy would spend a frame screaming “AAAAAH!”

Then Disky would say “Viddy, you need to sit down.”

Then Viddy would reply “What did you say little polar bear?”. Because originally they were wearing giant polar bears strapped to their faces.

this original script clearly represented far too many frames. i’ve no idea how i originally planned to make it fit.

When i wrote out all the scripts for this sequence, i was just thinking of “highlights” of this ongoing bank robbery. So each strip in the series would focus in on one memorable moment in the action. I think my predilection towards reusing art, and minimal detail ruins this whole idea to some degree. Also, i am just not seeing the punch-line/funny in these strips now. The ideas still make me smirk, but i keep wondering : did i see a punchline when i was writing them out? Did I lose something?

But rather than demand drastic changes (like satisfying punch lines!), i’m sticking withe original plan. seeing it through. because that’s art? hmm. more like: because that’s how you learn to make good plans in the first place. blah blah.

I am lightly worried that i’ve taken artistic integrity too far, and have got a cabin fever about me. If only i had a long scraggly beard like the great Alan Moore… then people would take my bizarre thought processes seriously. then, they would fear me. :)

you know, i think this whole thing works wayyyy better when read back to back (*with seconds in between, rather than days in between). As exemplified by the thread forming in the FF forum:

Since the Carrot.Op coincidentally began on a new page of the thread, i’m sorely tempted to end the series the moment a new page begins. Art! ART! accidents embraced as art!
